Old Breed General News

  • Book Update

As we come upon this months 81st anniversary of the 1st Marine Division’s deployment to the Pacific in WWII, I wanted to give an update-since it relates to our book.

The Old Breed General was published in hardcover on February 1, 2022. It is available in bricks and mortar stores and online. We hope to have our second printing soon.

And now, the audiobook is out!

Yes, as of April 18, 2023, the book is available in audiobook format. It was recorded by Paul Brion of Tantor Media. You can find it here: https://tantor.com/old-breed-general-don-brown-amy-rupertus-peacock.html.

Oorah! In this month’s May 2023 Leatherneck Magazine, you’ll find an article I submitted to the Marine Corps Association about Gen. Rupertus’s experience in China and comparing the build-up to WWII Pacific with Japan to China’s present-day activity in the Pacific. https://mca-marines.org/magazines/leatherneck/

The general is on YouTube! I continue to contribute to  videos or audio related to him or WWIIPacific as I did yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/@MajGenRupertus/featured

I also have a Facebook Group for the book where I post photos and other primary source material: https://www.facebook.com/groups/majgenrupertus

Obviously, I love this history and want to contribute what I can.

Ahh, those edits. I’ve enjoyed listening to the audiobook. Don and I combed the manuscript for edits and had many editors do the same. Yet, as we enter into battle in the audiobook, I found there is a bit of repetition (tip of the spear and mentioning Gen. Rupertus quite often). Guess we were all so excited building up to the Battle of Tulagi and Guadalcanal, we missed these repetitions.

Keep reading and listing. You’ll find less of that as we join the boots on the ground.

Back in 2021/2022, we discovered some edits in the galley version of the book I sent to early Marine readers. Luckily we were able to get them corrected. https://www.amyrupertuspeacock.com/got-edits/

If you find more, let me know asap.

In closing, if you have read the book or listened to the audiobook, please leave a review. Lots of books have sold, but we need more reviews!
