Veterans Day Talk Sunday Nov. 12 @ Duke Mansion in Charlotte

  • Veteran's Day Weekend Event

Happy Veterans Day!

Honored to speak at the Duke Mansion this Sunday, November 12 at 3pm for Veterans Day.

Noted, the 248th Marine Corps birthday is on Friday November 10.

Interestingly, this radio recording of General Rupertus during WWII was recorded right before the 170th Marine Corps birthday. https://youtu.be/lMFPM8e1Mzg?si=wWFq6SzK4hjsUZ5x

We will be discussing the build up to WWII with Japan, the RifleCreed history (Actually, the title is My Rifle the Creed of a US Marine), what he witnessed, and the 1st Marine Division’s campaign in WWII Pacific. Finally, how our global situation reflects the past.

I will also be honoring WWII Pacific veterans I knew in Charlotte.

November is a fabulous month full of family, friends and gratitude.

If my grandfather were alive on his November 14 birthday, he’d be 134 this year.

He joined the Marine Corps on his birthday back on November 14, 1913.

Oh, how I wish I could talk with him after doing all this research on his life and the 1st Marine Division in WWII in Pacific.

And, to sit down to talk with my parents, and aunts and uncles. But, they are now all buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Oh, how I miss them.  Especially this time of year.

We come from a family of veterans going back to the American Revolution to our father, Pat Rupertus, who was a USNA grad, Marine aviator, and Vietnam Veteran.

Many of the men in our family served in WWII Pacific. All were Navy plus one Marine (from what we know so far).  That’s the Marine I’ll be talking about.

I’ll be sure to put on some Glen Miller and 1940s swing before our presentation to set the mood. Listen to it here:  https://youtu.be/MUKHd2OlFVI?si=90bVofiGZ1dfJb-A

Bless our veterans of WWII and all wars. Looking back for lessons learned. Let’s pray today and always that we calm tensions and never again have a world war.

As Winston Churchill said, “The longer you can look back, the farther you can look forward.”

And, as Mark Twain said, “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.”

Are you in our around Charlotte this Sunday? Please joins us.

The event is free, but you must register through this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rosalie-reynolds-explore-history-old-breed-general-tickets-739570704887?aff=odeimcmailchimp&mc_cid=2e2d53b490

Thank you to our veterans.
